Race Day 16 - African drums (7667 km)

Skrevet av Copernica Adventures tirsdag 02. februar 2010 18:26
Sunrise on an African savanna. Our experiences on this trip are starting to exceed each other in magnitude. Todays wake-up is definitely a top three.

Race Day 15 - TIA (7317 km)

Skrevet av Copernica Adventures mandag 01. februar 2010 18:35
Savannha, sand, dust, wildlife and small villages. Today´s route from Kiffa to Kayes took us 244 km across what can´t be described as nothing else than African Savanna.
After spending a lovely night at Mr. Odhimos expensive "hotel" we once again skipped on the bill and made a run for it. We are not ashamed about avoiding his fees.
The only thing that beats falling asleep to the sound of the sea, is waking up to it. A light warm breeze through the tent and sunrays reflecting of the waves rolling onto the pearl white beach.

Race Day 12 - B2 Beach (6169 km)

The adventure continues! We were briefed by a general of the Mauritanian armed forces. He advised us on do´s and don´ts when traveling through the country and personally guaranteed us safe passage.
This was our last day in Morocco, so last night we awarded ourselves with a good rest at a nice hotel next to the beach. We left Dakhla early in the morning and set course for the Mauritanian border.
Todays route from Assa to Laayoune took us 500km towards the west coast of Morocco. After crossing over the Atlas mountains it didn´t take long for us to get accustomed with the straight tarmac highways in this part of the country.

On our own - ignorance is bliss

Skrevet av Copernica Adventures tirsdag 26. januar 2010 12:36
This morning we parted with the race organizers and headed down the coast to Dakhla in Westen Sahara.

Race Day 8 - Catching up (4948 km)

Skrevet av Copernica Adventures mandag 25. januar 2010 12:40
Wen we woke up in Anif this morning we were two days and 550 km behind the rest of the Budapest Bamako race. It seems like a trend, as teams and cars are now scattered all along the Moroccan route. Sahara Passage Ltd, the organizers of the Budapest Bamako 2010…
We got up early this morning to catch the sunlight. We don´t care that the other cars are two days ahead of us or that we haven´t had contact with the outside world for two full days. Our only goal is to get out from the desert and onto tarmac…

Race Day 6 - Sand, sand and more sand

Skrevet av Copernica Adventures fredag 22. januar 2010 12:44
Today we started of a bit late since we were parting with the Polar Bears and Satzumas. They are breaking out from the race and heading for Marrakesh.

Race Day 5 - Hviledag i Marokko

Skrevet av Copernica Adventures onsdag 20. januar 2010 12:46
Hello from Morocco! Finally we had the time to relax on this trip. The last 4 days was basically a race through Europe and Morocco. We passed on steep roads through the hilly Atlas mountains. With a maximum altitude of 1907 m.a.s.

Race Day 4 - Marokko

Skrevet av Copernica Adventures tirsdag 19. januar 2010 12:00
We are currently relaxing under a starry sky just north of the saharan desert and south of the Atlas mountains. We passed through them today after arriving in Nador, Morocco, by ferry from Almeria, Spain.

Race Day 3 - It´s starting to hurt

Skrevet av Copernica Adventures mandag 18. januar 2010 11:58
1000 km today. That´s almost a total of 3000 km in three days! Our asses are hurting real bad. Sebastian can´t feel his legs and Johan is actually become tired!!

The show is finally on

Skrevet av Copernica Adventures mandag 18. januar 2010 11:55
A lot of last minute decisions and administration had to be made due to the change of destination. Turns out our return flight from Bamako changed departure city some few thousands kilometers north of its original location

Race day 2 - Italy and France

Skrevet av Copernica Adventures søndag 17. januar 2010 11:56
Today we drowe more than 900km through most of Italy and all of France, passing through famous cities like Parma, Genova, Monaco, Nice, Cannes, Marseilles and Montpellier.

Goodbye Budapest

Skrevet av Copernica Adventures lørdag 16. januar 2010 11:53
Endelig avreise!!
Organizers have received a lot of troubling reports from mali and the government have pressured them to cancel the race. They´ve put up a hard fight the last couple of days, but in the end they caved in.
